A new IKI-funded project, titled “NDC Action”, will support Vietnam to translate their NDC into concrete sector strategies and actions ready for financing and implementation. Building on one of the core principles of the project Country Ownership the NDC Action Project will in joint effort with government representatives and local stakeholders prioritise two sectors to focus efforts on, with an aim of a balanced approach on adaptation and mitigation. The project is managed jointly by UNEP DTU Partnership and UNEP.
Bringing in local stakeholders
Central to the project is the integration of national development and climate change priorities. To enhance country ownership and local knowledge in the process, the NDC Action Project will in 2021 bring on board a National Project Coordinator based in Hanoi and a National Technical Institute (NTI). The National Project Coordinator will serve as the main coordinator between the NDC Action Project Team and national stakeholders for implementation and the NTI will provide technical assistance together with international experts.
Accelerating public and private investments
The project fosters accelerated public and private investment in the implementation of NDCs and optimises the effectiveness of national policies, which actively contributes to low-carbon and climate-resilient development based on the countries’ needs. The private sector and local financial institutions will be actively engaged in developing investment plans in two priority sectors selected by the countries.
Global scope and knowledge sharing
Beyond Vietnam the NDC Action Project supports 9 other partners countries globally: 2 in Asia, 3 in Latin America, 2 in Sub-Saharan Africa, and 2 in Middle East and North Africa. The NDC Action Project will facilitate the sharing of lessons learnt between sectors, countries, and regions among and beyond partner countries.
