Damage caused by natural disasters in Vietnam totals USD 22 Million in the first half of 2021

Natural disasters in Vietnam have caused financial losses of VND 508 billion (USD 22 Million) between January and June this year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO). The disasters left 34 people dead or missing, and another 51 injured. Altogether, 6,600 cattle and poultry were killed, 47,500 ha of rice and 12,400 ha of vegetables were damaged, and 7,938 houses destroyed, swept away, or flooded.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (MARD) General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control, Vietnam was hit by 14 storms, one depression, 120 flash floods and landslides, and 90 earthquakes in 2020, with a total of 357 fatalities and financial losses of VND 39.96 trillion (USD 1.73 billion).
