The Vietnamese Government has just issued Resolution 67/NQ-CP approving the task of developing a National Land Use Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, and a five-year National Land Use Plan (2021-2025). The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) is mandated to lead this task, thereby ensuring consistency and synchronization with socio-economic development strategies and plans and relevant sectoral policies. As the lead agency, MONRE is tasked with aligning branch management with territorial management; considering environmental protection and national defence and security; ensuring compliance, continuity, and hierarchy in the national planning system; and involving agencies, organisations, communities and individuals.
The planning process is expected to stretch over 30 months, from the third quarter in 2020 to the second quarter in 2022. Ultimately, the National Assembly will approve the National Land Use Plan to 2030 once it has been finalised.
