On 31 March in Berlin the workshop on “Strengthening cooperation under the JETP framework towards the Net Zero Emission target by 2050” was co-hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany and the Vietnamese Innovation Network in Europe (VINEU) and was a part of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue Week 2023.

Attending the workshop, Mr. Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Viet Nam in the development of green energy that he had witnessed during his trip in the country last September. According to Mr. Flasbarth, along with the strong commitment of Vietnamese government to climate change and the favorable natural potential for wind and solar capacity, Viet Nam has a huge potential to become a leader in clean energy transition in Southeast Asia. In addition, he emphasised the importance of the just energy transition within the country that would bring the local community along, create green jobs and reinforce the domestic circular economy. Accordingly, the solution and support from EU, including Germany will be developed through investment and trade activities.

In his speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh underscored the crucial role of international partners to support Viet Nam in achieving its climate targets. Besides, the national electricity development planning for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, which will be early completed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, reveals the roadmap of the country to end its dependence on fossil fuels and to focus on renewable energy such as hydropower, wind power, solar power and biomass power.

The workshop was attended by Vietnamese experts, intellectuals, scientist, and entrepreneurs in Europe. During the discussion, all attendees gave pledge to contribute to the sustainable development of Viet Nam through innovation and technology transfer.
