Tianjin, 26 June 2023 – Viet Nam, represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, and the World Economic Forum (WEF), represented by Executive Director Borge Brende, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the period of 2023 – 2026. The signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by the Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of WEF within the framework of the World Economic Forum 2023 held in Tianjin (China).
The MoU reaffirms the strong partnership between Viet Nam and WEF in the coming time, building on the support and cooperation of two parties toward green transition and high technology. Six main priority areas that were specified in this MoU were: (i) innovation in food industry; (ii) capacity building in innovation and green transformation; (iii) industry clusters towards net-zero emissions; (iv) plastic action enhancement including Global Plastic Action Partnership (GAPA); (v) financial aid for renewable energy transformation; and (vi) digital transformation and the development of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
During the meeting, Professor Klaus Schwab applauded Viet Nam’s success story in economic recovery and development in the context of global crises and conflicts. He also pledged his strong commitment to enhance the cooperation with Viet Nam by closely collaborating with relevant agencies to implement a large number of projects on green transition, digital training, and Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
In his sharing, the Vietnamese Prime Minister confirmed to maintain the actual inclusive microeconomy and promote the sustainable growth. With the support from WEF, Viet Nam would seize the opportunity to work with WEF’s members and attract foreign investment in different sectors such as: high tech, infrastructure strategy, clean energy transformation, etc.
