International Climate Initiative (IKI) in Viet Nam

The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport, the World Bank (WB) and GIZ recently launched a study laying out a pathway to a low-carbon and climate-resilient transport sector in Viet Nam. Accordingly, by employing a mix of diverse policies and investments, Viet Nam can reduce its carbon emissions in the transport sector by up to 9% by 2030 using domestic resources, and by as much as 15-20% with international support and private sector participation.

“Germany strongly believes that fighting climate change will only be successful if we work together,” said Joerg Rueger, First Secretary for the Environment at the German Embassy in Viet Nam. “To continue our cooperation, the German Ministry for the Environment has committed to a follow-up project – the NDC Transport Initiative for Asia. We hope to launch this new project in Vietnam by the end of this year,” he added.
