From 15 to 19 November 2021, a block seminar on wind power technology was organized by the IKI-funded project CASE Vietnam and other partners. Aiming at facilitating the gradual shift from jobs in conventional power plants to jobs in the renewable energy branch, the seminar targeted 60 experienced engineers and technical personnel who are working in the conventional energy sector with an interest in the clean energy/power sector in general.  

Latest information and study results available as well as in-depth discussions on the potential and opportunities in wind energy, technology research and development, and financing, new development trends of onshore and offshore wind power globally and for Vietnam was provided within the block seminar. Global experience and analyses suggest that with the improvement of new technology, the capacity factor of wind turbines could be increased by about 2.5% per year while the costs would amortize quickly. However, to develop offshore wind in Vietnam, there will be a need for stable long-term policies, institutional capacity building, as well clear targets and visions. The commitments pledged by the Prime Minister at COP26, including achieving net-zero emissions in 2050, are expected to accelerate the energy transition in Vietnam. As a result, many thousands of workers will have to shift from the conventional power sector to the renewable energy sector.
